OSCA Film Discussion Club - still in our living room

visit Out In The Sticks website
We were hoping that we would move all our activities to the Gallery right after the opening, but we won't manage it that quick. We still haven't got ideas what would be the best system of covering the windows for the screenings. And when we have an idea then we will need to get the funds to do that.  And then moving all the equipment will take a few days too. Also we are trying to get a new screen - bigger and better, the matter is in progress.
So the movie on August 17th - Canadian comedy Seducing Dr Lewis, the movie on September 1st - Polish comedy Colonel Kwiatkowski and the movie for kids on September 4th - Coraline will be still screened in Anna's and Andrzej's living room in the back of the building.
Hopefully the next screening, on September 15th will take place in the Gallery.

New donation for our Gallery

visit Out In The Sticks website
We have received today another generous donation from Glen Supply Co. Ltd. in Kingston. It is a great building supply and hardware store, one of only two family operated businesses of this type and scale that still survived in Kingston without joining the big chains, like Rona or Home Hardware.

They have great choice of stuff of unusually good quality and also good prices, which are not really much higher than in chain stores, especially regarding the high quality mentioned above, and sometimes even lower. They also have great programs very convenient for clients - like the blade exchange. You buy a blade for your saw for hundred dollars and when it's all used you exchange it for a new one for only thirty some dollars, isn't that amazing? The staff and the owner are wonderful - helpful, polite, knowledgeable and honest - it doesn't happen that often in some other stores. In some stores they will sell you paper instead of wood or nails instead of screws, you know what I mean. If you are building or renovating, I sincerely advise you to go and check Glen Supply and I don't say that because they supported us, I say that because it's really amazing store.
You can find them at 1149 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston ON, K7K 6C7

Grand Opening of our Art Gallery

It was a very important day for us yesterday - finally, after many months of hard work we opened our art gallery in Yarker. The celebration took place between 5 and 7 pm on August 7th, 2010. Around 150 people visited the gallery on that day, including Yarker and area residents and visitors from Kingston, Toronto and Montreal. Short speeches were given by Anna Szczepaniec, gallery director and David Pickering, the author of the show. There were some little refreshments, our volunteer, Joshua Hammerle from Switzerland was playing guitar and the atmosphere was great.

Exhibition "Egyptian Reflections" by David Pickering

We opened with the exhibition "Egyptian Reflections" by David Pickering. The show features 30 two-dimensional mixed media works, mainly collages, created by artist over a period of ten years. Most of them were executed during David's visits to Egypt, where he maintains his winter studio. The show will be on until September 5th.

THE GALLERY WILL BE OPEN EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 1 PM TO 5 PM AND BY APPOINTMENT - PHONE: 613 877 4532 .

In front of the gallery on the opening day
We are still working on little improvements. We only have half of the lights so far, we need to install the equipment for the movies and concerts, we need to get proper chairs for the movies too and bigger, nicer screen, finally we have to renovate and open a washroom for the public. It will all take time, regarding how limited our financial resources are, and probably some of those things won't be ready before next spring, but we are optimistic and working hard.

Why new blog for OSCA

We meant to have a news section at our website outinthesticks.ca, but it was sort of hard to keep it updated with all that amount of work we had, so we thought it would be simple to add an external blog and link it from the website. Let's see how it's gonna work.
